  • Common signs that antidepressants aren’t working in the way they should

A lot of people have needed at least a bit of professional help in the grieving process. And while for some a good talk or a sense with a psychotherapist has helped, for others – antidepressants were the only choice that could help them feel better and get better.

Yet, it’s good to know that antidepressants may not be functioning in the way they should, and that’s exactly why I’m going to share signs that will help you reveal that. If they’re not working right, you’ll probably need to change them and get another medicine.

Common signs that antidepressants aren’t working in the way they should

1. You feel a bit better, but your mood doesn’t last – the situation changes quickly and rapidly. This is not a good sign – if you’re feeling like your emotions are a true rollercoaster, it would be better to choose some other pills rather than those you’re already taking.

2. Gaining a lot of weight. Many people claim that they’ve gained weight from antidepressants, which is not a good thing. Yes, some antidepressants can make your appetite much bigger. If you don’t want to gain weight, talk with your psychotherapist about this. They’ll give you some other antidepressants that don’t have this side effect.

3. Suicidal thoughts. If suicidal thoughts appear or depression worsens, it’s time to change the medicine you’re taking.

4. Energetic, but still blue. You may also feel very energetic, yet still feel blue. This is still a sign that the antidepressants you’re taking are not working properly.

5. Serotonin syndrome. We all know that serotonin is a good hormone that brings happiness, but if your body is producing too much of it, that’s when we can talk about serotonin syndrome. It can cause various symptoms, including diarrhea, shivering, fever, seizures, and even death if the syndrome is not treated on time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome

When will antidepressants start to work? Some other sign that can tell you that antidepressants are working is waiting for months until the pill starts making some changes. It’s true that various antidepressants work differently, but don’t opt for those that take months to start showing their effects.
