In this article, we want to help you to regain your self-esteem after going through trauma.
It doesn’t matter which type of traumatic event you have been through or you have just witnessed, that can really affect your self-esteem in a negative way.
A lot of victims of traumatic events claim that they felt lost for a long period of time, and like no one understood them and could feel their pain.
If you have been through trauma, this is how you can rebuild your self-esteem:
The most important thing is to stop blaming yourself for what happened. You may feel that it is your fault and that everything has happened because you have done something wrong. Understand that everyone can be the victim of a traumatic event and that there probably wasn’t anything you could do to stop it.
Don’t dwell on the past. You may think about the past a lot and what could have been done differently. Yet, it is a must to break and stop that vicious circle of overthinking and repeatable negative thoughts.
Enjoy solitude. When you feel that no one understands you, know that solitude can really help you to heal, at least for some time. Enjoy your own time and spend as much time as you can on those activities you like and enjoy.
A community can help too. A healthy and supportive community of people who have been through the same trauma as you can be healing as well.
