Most people who live with high-functioning anxiety will recognize themselves in the following:
- Looking like you’re having it all together. You don’t allow yourself to look or feel weak. When someone would look at you from a far, they would think that everything in your life is going great – even when you are on your bottom.
- Pushing yourself towards improvement and perfection – all the time. You have a constant need to improve something in your life or to fix yourself. This feels like a a never-ending battle – even when you achieve what you’ve imagined, you move on to something new.
- Smiling when your mind is actually in a panic mode. When experiencing hard times or having a panic attack, your first body response is smiling.
- Achieving a lot, yet still not feeling satisfied or like you’re done. You only feel a sense of release once something is done – not satisfaction.
- Constant worry about failing – even when you are winning or succeeding. The need to do better and achieve more never leaves your mind.
- Feeling exhausted but not being able to rest or slow down. You know that all that isn’t doing you a favor, yet cannot relax because you start worrying immediately.
