Manic depression

Manic depression is today known under the term bipolar disorder, meaning that there is a real brain disorder causing a person to experience dramastic mood swings.

A mix of episodes filled with euphoria, high energy, and irritability get displaced by sadness, low energy, and hopelesness.

Manic and hypomanic cycles usually last shorter than depressive lows, followed by a huge feeling of guilt. People in their manic episodes most of the times create numerous different decisions (big and small) they later regret.

Manic depression/bipolar disorder is caused by a mix of genetics, brain structure, and stress.

Decreased need for sleep and impulsive behavior later lead to feeling exhausted. During the manic episode, people with BPD will spend too much and do other risky behavior they wouldn’t do when feeling normal.

Treatement for manic depression includes taking medication like mood stabilizers.
