Stages of depression

A lot of people online is searching about the stages of depression. I have decided to create a clear article on this topic, so you can learn and understand how various stages of depression can differ from one another.

Earlier on our website, I’ve share a depression test with you, which you can read more about here.

People who are depressed know very well that depression is more than just feeling sad.

This complex mental health condition affect literally all aspects of our life, both mental and physical health and state of well-being.

Why is it so important to recognize depression and to find a stage of it you’re in? That’s very important because if you realize how your well-being is affected by it, you can ask for help sooner.

  1. Does depression begin quietly? Yes, this is very common for a lot of people, not only those in the grieving process. People who are under a lot of stress will start to notice changes in their mood and energy levels. Feeling tired all the time and like you’re having a bad day every single day is common when the depression starts.
What are some other signs you’ll experience at the beginning of a depressive episode? Those will usually include increased irritability or restlessness, loss of interest in hobbies or social activities, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much

The first stage of depression makes you lead daily normal life but everything seems harder and you start to lose hope and sense.

  1. How does moderate depression look like? Here we will have a bit more intensifying symptoms. People usually claim that they feel tired of time, no matter how much they sleep. If you are unable to concentrate, you’ll realize that making decisions, no matter how small, has become very hard. Your appetite and weight can change as well. When it comes to feelings, you’ll think about emptiness or worthlessness at least twice per day. Canceling plans or having no energy to do a phone call happens in this stage of depression as well. Daily activities you once enjoyed don’t bring joy anymore. Others will start to notice your change in the behavior because your work performance will drop as well.
  1. Severe depression. We came to the third stage, which includes severe depression that significantly impacts your daily life. Intense sadness and despair are very common, followed by the feeling that life doesn’t have any sense anymore, and won’t have in the future. Some people at this stage of depression start thinking about death & suicide.
Others can easily notice that you are depressed because your physical appearance will change as well – there may be days when you neglect your basic hygiene. Self-care vanishes as well. Easy tasks, like showering, feel like a burden.
  1. Severe depression and its peak. At this point, if you have tried to fight depression or searched for help, you may reach a crisis point. Suicidal thoughts can become plans, and some people will actually try to end their lives. You will stop caring about literally anything that was once valuable to you. If you need help, always know that you can reach our website and talk to us.

The conclusion of this blog post would be that people must understand that depression won’t always follow a path – it’s not linear for everyone.

People may move back and forth between stages or experience periods of relief before symptoms return.

If you or someone you love may be struggling, don’t wait for symptoms to reach a crisis point.
