Suicidal tendencies & mental health status

On our website, we recently covered a few topics related to suicide, including the impact of suicide on families and friends, as well as positive and negative impacts of social media on suicide.

Today, I want to check what does mental health status of suicidal people look like.

Better Health Channel claims that people who are thinking about suicide or have tried to commit suicide have a combination of mental illnesses, together with difficult life events.

As a bereaved parent, you know very well how a tragic life event can change you. From very low mood and negative thinking, to severe anxiety you live with on a daily basis. Besides that, different sorts of psychosis can lead to suicidal ideas as well.

Depression and subtance use disorderds are two common one related to risky suicidal behaviour. Alcohol is the number one problem that can lead to this dark path.

Half of all people who commit and die from suicide are suffering from major depressive disorder.

Another research shows us that 60% of people who commited suicide either had depression or bipolar disorder.

While older adults (above 75) are the ones who commit suicide the most, after them come young adults. Suicidal people, besides depression and other mental health issues and personality disorders have higher cortisol levels.
