Are you sure you know the names of different phobias?

An interesting blog post, probably useful for many of you.

Since the beginning of mankind, people had various sorts of fears. Yet, phobias are different, and tend to make us lose control and get panic attacks.

Maybe you too have a certain phobia, but didn’t know what it’s called. For that purpose, I have created this interesting yet a bit spooky list.

  1. Hydrophobia – fear of water. Personally, this one is mine. Fear of deep and dark water, and drowning in general. It’s definitely more common within people who don’t know how to swim properly, or better said – relax and breathe while in water.
  2. Acrophobia – fear of heights. The second one, very common, is extreme fear of heights. Although many scientific researches claim that we are not born with the fear of height, I am not pretty sure about that. You know the feeling when you just see heights and your hands and feet start feeling weird…
  3. Demophobia – fear of crowds. It’s not just about being an introvert – it’s feeling that some very bad event will happen when you are surrounded by so many people.
  4. Aerophobia – fear of air travel. Another very common phobia. People with aerophobia escape travelling by planes.
  5. Xenophobia – fear of strangers. I believe this one can be developed after some traumatic events or evil that came from people before, so you don’t trust anyone.
  6. Pyrophobia – fear of fire. One more phobia many people have, and we understand why.
  7. Cynophobia – fear of dogs. If you had negative experiences with dogs when you were little, you may be prone to developing cynophobia.
  8. Apiphobia – fear of bees. We are all afraid of them, but there are people who get a true panic attack when around bees.
  9. Ophidiophobia – fear of snakes. I can understand…
  10. Arachnophobia – fear of spiders. Together with snakes, we learned that spiders are creepy and evil animals for so long, it’s no wonder people developed a phobia.
  11. Hemophobia – fear of blood. People with this one even try to escape their regular blood tests being done.
  12. Glossophobia – fear of public speaking. This one is understandable as well – people with glossophobia are actually afraid that others will laugh at them. When they have to speak publicly, they can even lost their voice and freeze.

I actually hope you haven’t found your hobia on this list – but if you have, at least I gave you a direction to search more about it.
