If you’re thinking about taking up a hobby, know that these are the best options to calm your mind.
- Jigsaw puzzling. You can create amazing and unique pictures for your home while lowering down your cortisol levels. I’ve made many already and framed them. If you are new into this, start with 500 pieces. Very soon, you’ll be able to handle the big ones sized from 3-5k pieces.
- Floral arranging. Need a side job, but also searching for a calming hobby? If you like flowers, I bet this one should be the best choice.
- Embroidery. Create amazing and useful decorations for yourself and people you love. It can also be a side hustle.
- Making bread. Stop buying unhealthy bread that contains too many additives. Bread making is a calming hobby, but will improve your health as well. With time, you’ll become a professional.
- Gardening. A beautiful hobby that is healthy both for your mind and your body. Your strenght will increase, and your muscles will become noticable very quickly.
- Painting. Let’s talk about art! Even if you think you’re not that talented, I truly invite you to try at least amateur painting – you’ll enjoy it!

While you are here, let’s make a quick remind about what makes stress levels worse:
- Not spending enough time outside. Your body needs that sunshine and vitamin D to produce serotonin hormone.
- Surviving on caffeine. It’s well-know that caffeine will increase your anxiety and overthinking.
- Srcolling. I’ve already wrote about negative effects of doomscrolling, which you can read more about here.
- Negative self talk and thoughts. In this text, you can find a lot of useful tips and tricks to overcome negative self-talk.
- Not prioritizing movement. Your body loves movement – take up an activity you will enjoy, whether that will be riding a bike, or playing basketball with your friends.
- Making time for anything but for yourself, especially your health. Don’t neglect your health. Never avoid doctor appoinments. Remember that it is fine to be afraid – we all are. Courage means being afraid but doing it anyway. I am sure you can do it!
