Great willpower is connected to everything big – self-discipline, proper decision-making, and goal achievement. It’s no secret the most successful people all around the globe are searching for the best tips to make their willpower stronger.

We’ve tried it all and discovered that the these steps are the most effective ones:

  1. Think of some small goals you can set for yourself.
If you start big immediately, you double your chances for failing and giving up, at least in the beginning. Psychologists claim that we should never change more than 2 things in our lives at once. It is the same for training your willpower – start with the smallest change you can. For example, if you have troubles with waking up early, try to wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual. This will build your new and better habit with time, as well as strengthen your confidence, which is crucial for building willpower. If you are a smoker that’s trying to quit, limit yourself not to smoke while being outside, for example.
  2. Practice Daily Self-Control
After we have set some goals for ourselves, it is the time to practice daily self control. Don’t think of making decisions as of defined process. That is not something that can end. You fight on a daily basis. Don’t say ”I will never” or ”I will always”, but rather go day by day. Tell yourself that today you will ”this and that”, and repeat that tomorrow.
  3. Developing new routines.
Changing your routines is usually necessary for growth. Routine reduces the number of decisions you have to make, which in turn conserves willpower. It’s always a good idea to eliminate the chaos that comes with too much choice.
  4. We all have our triggers, what are yours?
Think of all the triggers that make you stay away from the right road. Remember that it is okay to fail from time to time. Don’t be super strict with yourself because that can only make you give up entirely on something.
  5. What can you change to achieve a healthier life?
Willpower is closely tied to our physical health and body state. You will absolutely build willpower much easier when you have a great sleeping routine, nice nutrition, as well as a hobby that can help you to manage daily stress levels.
  6. It is all about progress.
As said above already, celebrate the small wins and go day by day. Learn how to overcome negative self-talk with some of these tips. Yet, we must think about not failing into a ”reward trap”. What does it mean? It means, for example, that you shouldn’t take an entire cheat day if you have opted for a cheat meal.
  7. Can you visualize achieving your goals?
This is not only great for positivity, but can literally help your brain to map your goals. It will help you to remind yourself where you are going and where you want to be.
  8. Surround yourself with people who want to grow.
