As we’ve said many times on our website, a grief journey is not a linear path someone can follow.
There will be very bad days, and there will be some better ones. Our mission here is to help you through the grieving journey and make it as easy for you as it can be (and we truly know how hard it is).
On those days when everything just feels off, you can try these tips and techniques:
1. Micro doses of happiness. Think of anything that makes you happy, not matter how small it is. It can be your favorite cake or some other dish. Think of anything that can put a smile on your face for at least a minute. Watching a funny video can also be helpful, as well as your favorite songs or movies.
2. Do something good for yourself or your body. Treating yourself well will definitely make your mood better. It can be anything, from getting a massage, to even painting your nails in a favorite color or visiting the hairdresser.
3. Changing your environment. Your mental health can improve when you change your environment – it can either be a small trip, visiting your friends or family, or even rearranging your living room.
4. Connect with nature. It’s no secret that nature works wonders for our mental health – take a walk in the park on in the woods. Sit by a lake and let your thoughts clear themselves up with time and patience.
5. Stop fixating your thoughts on the negative outcomes. As every person who’s grieving, you probably got used to thinking about the worst case ending scenarious. Let’s play a different game today – sit and think about those ”what ifs” in the best possible scenarios and cases. Imagine the best outcomes for your future.
6. Clear your space. Pick one space from your home and clear it entirely. Do something manageable and something you’ve been putting off for a while.
7. Force a smile. Did you know that your brain doesn’t care if you are forcing a smile or actually smilling? Smile even when you don’t feel like doing it – your brain will start pumping happiness hormones.
