Overstimulated during the full Moon? Here’s how to cope

On our website related to grief and loss, we noticed that people are interested in the topics related to the full Moon. Therefore, I recently wrote a blog post explaining how it affects people related to their personality type, which you can read more about here.

Today, we will create a guide for highly-sensitive people with a purpose to help them cope during the full Moon phases.

Feeling overstimulated? Here’s what to do.

A full Moon can bring a lot of sensory sensitivity, leaving you with heightened emotions and disrupted daily rhythm.

Feeling restless and anxious during this time of the month has been seen in all cultures, for even centuries. Science explains that we feel overstimulated during the full Moon due to heightened electromagnetic activity, increased light exposure during the night, as well as collective energy shifts in the society.

For people with unresolved emotions and especially trauma this time of the month is even harder. Here is what I found out helps the most:

Safe environment. Prepare for the full Moon – create a safe environment that will erase emotional overload by lowering the lighting you use, applying darker curtains, as well as listening to nature sounds or any sort of soft music that suits you. The atmosphere in your home during this time of the month should be soothing.

Have you ever tried to practice grounding techniques? These include reconnecting with the nature. It’s easy to achieve that by walking barefoot when possible, taking a salt bath, or practicing mindfulness and gratitude. Breathwork helps a lot. In general, do anything that helps you to regulate your nervous system. I’ve noticed that the easiest way to regulate my nervous system is to slow down – with everything you are doing.

Get rid of unnecessary stimulation. It’s a must to limit stimulation that harms you, like doom scrolling, being on social media for hours, and overstimulating environments. Decline all non-essential invitations.

Journaling. For those who are always overthinking, I highly recommend journaling. Writing down your thoughts will help you clear your mind, as well as realize what bothers you and what emotions are overwhelming you.

Daily routine. If you are someone who doesn’t follow a strict daily routine, it can be really helpful during the chaotic full Moon phase. Plan your days ahead and stick to that plan.

Visualization. Still having extra energy? Visualize the best possible outcomes for yourself. It’s a must to transfer that energy to something positive, rather than leaving it on its own because it can create chaos.

Nature has a solution, too. Have you tried herbs that can calm your nervous system? Use chamomile tea, valerian root, or magnesium to get rid of the physical tension in the body.
