Our beliefs have a huge impact on our overall lives…
For everyone who is dealing with stubborn thoughts and sentences such as ”I cannot do this”, or ”I am not capable of finishing that”, you’ve probably been a victim of negative self-talk, as well as a fixed mindset.
In one of our previous blog posts, we talked about how negative self-talk impacts our entire personality and life in general, and today we will try to explain the difference between a fixed and growing mindset in the simplest manner.
Psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck is the one who showed people how having a fixed mindset can have huge negative impacts on our personal development and well-being, as well as how can growth mindset can help us to achieve more in life and do better.
First, let’s explain what a fixed mindset is. The main definition for this is that people who have it believe that they cannot grow more and become better versions of themselves.
They believe that their intelligence has already reached a maximum level, and that they cannot work more or improve their talents.
Therefore, people with a fixed mindset live such a life where they trust their abilities are static.
Many of them also think that putting effort into something is not valuable if they are not naturally talented to do something or are not born that way.
Besides the beliefs I’ve mentioned, those with a fixed mindset usually have a huge fear of failure. This leads to constant avoidance of challenges of all sorts.
If they start something or try new things, fixed minds give up very quickly.
On the other side, we have something completely opposite, which is a growth mindset.
People with this way of thinking have a strong feeling that they can improve themselves if they work hard enough. They are prone to persistence.
All people must understand that some things in life don’t come easily, and that’s exactly what people with a growth mindset understand very well.
Why am I telling you all this? Because the grief journey itself requires you to become someone with a growth mindset.
Believing that mistakes can make you grow if you learn from them is a great way to go through life, in various situations.
Think of challenges and new things in life as opportunities to grow and improve because those truly can bring such results.
If you don’t work on improving your mindset and let it stay fixed, it can bring tons of anxiety with it. Low self-esteem is also common, as well as avoiding providing any effort because you think it doesn’t matter if you do something or not.
In the next blog post, we will share some of the best tips and techniques that will help you to switch your fixed mindset to a growth version of it.
