This is where our body stores different emotions

I’ve already written about TMD from my personal experience, and today we will take a look where negative emotions are stored, and can cause chronic pain of different sorts.

As a bereaved parent, I bet that you have experienced different types of body pain and aches due to the grieving process. Many often forget how closely our body is tied to our mental health and state of mind.

If you cannot get rid of chronic pain of some sort, maybe you’ve stored too many negative emotions. Here is where they are usually located:

  1. Hips. If you feel tension in your hips and have troubles with mobility, it may be due unresolved grief or some buried feelings you haven’t lived through in a way your body and soul expect.
  2. Shoulders. Tension, aches, and pain in shoulders can signalize weight of too much responsibility and prolonged stressful periods.
  3. Lower back. Lower back pain can be sign of sadness or anger, but can also appear due to the fear of instability and uncertainity.
  4. Jaw. I’ve shared my TMD article with you, but it’s good to remind ourselves that jaw tension and pain can be a result of repressed anger and unspoken words.
  5. Chest. Chest pain is very common within anxiety and can even mimic heart attacks. It is related to unexpressed sadness as well.
  6. Neck. Chronic neck pain is linked to inner conflicts and supressed truth.
  7. Knees. If your knees are hurting on a daily basis, it may not only be related to your job or age. Chronic knee pain, especially in the grieving process, can signal resistance to change and progress.
  8. Hands. Hurting hands are connected with control issues.
  9. Stomach. I’ve wrote an article about IBS, too. Stomach pain is usually corellated with anxiety and emotional trauma.

Next time you go to a therapy, don’t forget to mention chronic pain to your mental health professional. Not only that they will understand, but can also provide help and relief.
